Young Pyo Ko is a retired South Korean professional football player who was born on April 14, 1977, in Gyeongsan, South Korea. He primarily played as a left-back but could also operate as a central midfielder.
Ko began his professional career at Anyang LG Cheetahs (now FC Seoul) in the K League 1, where he won the league title in 2000 and the Korean FA Cup in 1999 and 2000. In 2003, he signed for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, where he quickly established himself as a key player and helped the club win three Eredivisie titles, a Dutch Cup, and reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Ko also represented the South Korean national team on 129 occasions, making him the most-capped player in the country's history until he was surpassed by Hong Myung-bo in 2013. He played in three editions of the FIFA World Cup, including the semi-finals in 2002, where South Korea famously reached fourth place on home soil.
After retiring from playing in 2013, Ko became a football commentator and pundit for South Korean television channels.
